DESCRIPTION:In 1891\, Salvation Army Captain Joseph McFee was distraught be
 cause so many poor individuals in San Francisco were going hungry. During 
 the holiday season\, he resolved to provide a free Christmas dinner to the
  destitute and poverty-stricken. He only had one major hurdle to overcome 
 — funding the project. Captain McFee's kettle idea launched a tradition 
 that has spread not only throughout the United States\, but all across the
  world. Everywhere\, public contributions to Salvation Army kettles enable
  the organization to continue its year-round efforts at helping those who 
 would otherwise be forgotten. The Rotary Club of San Francisco has annuall
 y participated in the Red Kettle Campaign on Union Square for many years\,
  and we have long been a partner with the Salvation Army. This year we hav
 e been asked to lend our support once again. Funds that are raised in this
  effort help the Salvation Army to support their feeding\, housing\, cloth
 ing\, and drug addiction programs in San Francisco.  December 20th has be
 en designated Rotary Day for the 2024 Red Kettle Campaign. The kettles wil
 l take place on the Winter Walk (Stockton Street between Post and Van Ness
 ) from Noon-6 PM. If you can help\, please reach out to President-Elect Fr
 ank Yoke  We need Rotarians to volunteer for at least one one-hour shift 
 and welcome all who would like to stay longer. This will be an outdoor eve
 nt.
