DESCRIPTION:Our November DEI Film Festival movie is Mankiller. This inspiri
 ng documentary follows the life of Wilma Mankiller\, the first woman to be
  elected Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation. The film traces her journ
 ey from her childhood in Oklahoma\, through her family’s relocation to S
 an Francisco\, and back to Oklahoma\, where she rose to power within the C
 herokee Nation. Through original interviews with friends\, family\, and ac
 tivists\, including Gloria Steinem\, as well as archival footage\, Mankill
 er portrays a visionary leader who overcame deep-rooted sexism to usher in
  an era of stability and prosperity for her people.  Mankiller has been r
 ecognized at several film festivals\, earning multiple awards for its stor
 ytelling and impact. Following the screening\, we will host a group discus
 sion over a pizza and salad dinner to reflect on the film’s themes and t
 o share perspectives on Wilma Mankiller’s legacy as a leader\, activist\
 , and changemaker. This event is sponsored by the Diversity\, Equity\, and
  Inclusion Committees of the Rotary Club of San Francisco and of District
