DESCRIPTION:English spelling isn’t crazy! Nancy Cushen White\, Ed.D.\, wi
 ll present her work and research in dyslexia\, a learning disorder that ca
 uses difficulty in reading due to problems identifying speech sounds and l
 earning how they relate to letters and words. Dr. White is a Clinical Prof
 essor with the Department of Pediatrics\, Division of Adolescent and Young
  Adult Medicine\, at UCSF—and a member of the UCSF Dyslexia Research Cen
 ter Team. Over the past 40+ years\, she has taught students in general/spe
 cial education classrooms at public/private schools\, provided psycho-educ
 ational assessment and literacy intervention\, trained pre-/in-service tea
 chers and practitioners\, developed curricula\, and been involved in polic
 y. She piloted a San Francisco Unified School District special day class f
 or 2e—Twice Exceptional students who were gifted with a diagnosis of dys
 lexia\; has taught young adults in a pre-trial diversion program through S
 an Francisco Superior Court—Mentor Court Division\; worked as a Literacy
  Intervention Consultant and Case Manager for Lexicon Reading Center—Dub
 ai—United Arab Emirates for 10 years\; and trains teachers in the Slinge
 rland Multisensory (Multimodal) Structured Language Approach (Structured L
 iteracy) as a certified Instructor of Teaching for the Slingerland Institu
 te. She has received numerous awards. Dr. White is the spouse of Bebo Whit
 e\, a member of our Club. They have two sons and two grandsons. This is a 
 regular membership meeting of The Rotary Club of San Francisco\, open to a
 ll Rotarians\, visiting Rotarians\, prospective members\, and guests. The
