This evening\, State S enator Scott Wiener will be our guest speaker. Throughout his career\, Sen ator Wiener has worked to make housing more abundant and affordable\, inve st in our transportation systems\, increase access to healthcare\, meaning fully address climate change and the impacts of wildfires\, reform our cri minal justice system\, reduce gun violence\, reduce California’s high po verty rate\, and safeguard and expand the rights of all communities\, incl uding immigrants and the LGBTQ community. Elected in November 2016\, Senat or Wiener represents District 11 in the California State Senate. Before hi s election to the Senate\, Senator Wiener served on the San Francisco Boar d of Supervisors\, representing the district previously represented by Sup ervisor Harvey Milk. During his time on the Board of Supervisors\, Senator Wiener authored a number of first-in-the-nation laws\, including mandatin g fully paid parental leave for all working parents and requiring water re cycling and solar power in new developments. He focused extensively on hou sing and public transportation\, authoring laws to expedite approval of af fordable housing\, legalize new in-law units\, and tie public transportati on funding to population growth.   Senator Wiener received a bachelor’s degree from Duke University and a law degree from Harvard Law School. He spent a year in Chile on a Fulbright Scholarship doing historical research . In addition to our guest speaker\, we will conduct some Club business\, have dinner\, and enjoy Rotary fellowship at this evening meeting. There i s no charge to attend this meeting\, but each attendee pays individually f or food and beverages ordered at MoMo's. So that we can plan the space\, w e ask that you please register.
