DESCRIPTION:In recognition of March as Women’s History Month\, our next D
EI Film Festival movie is Miss Representation. This powerful documentary e
xplores how mainstream media contributes to the under-representation of wo
men in influential positions by circulating limited and often disparaging
portrayals of women. Through personal stories of teenage girls and intervi
ews with media insiders\, journalists\, educators\, and activists\, the fi
lm reveals how media messages shape confidence\, ambition\, and leadership
opportunities for women and girls. Premiering at the Sundance Film Festiv
al\, Miss Representation offers a thoughtful look at the connection betwee
n media imagery and women’s participation in public life. The film highl
ights the urgent need for positive role models and calls attention to the
media’s unique opportunity and responsibility to promote more accurate a
nd empowering representations. It also launched a social action campaign e
ncouraging policy change\, educational reform\, socially responsible busin
ess practices\, and a public pledge against gender misrepresentation. Popc
orn and beverages (with and without alcohol) will be available during the
screening of the film. We'll have a group discussion over dinner after the
movie ends. This is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the themes of r
epresentation\, leadership\, and gender equity and to consider how each of
us can help create a more inclusive media landscape. Miss Representation
