DESCRIPTION:Our September DEI Film Festival movie is Life\, Animated. This
powerful documentary tells the story of Owen Suskind\, who was diagnosed w
ith autism at the age of three. As Owen withdrew into silence\, his parent
s feared they might never connect with him again — until they discovered
that Disney-animated films offered a surprising way back. Through Disney
’s beloved characters and stories\, Owen learned how to make sense of th
e world and found his own voice. Life\, Animated is a heartfelt exploratio
n of communication\, family bonds\, and the power of storytelling. Life\,
Animated won the Sundance Film Festival award for Best Direction\, the Spe
cial Achievement Annie Award\, and was nominated for the Academy Award for
Best Documentary Feature. Please note that the film is recommended for ag
es 12 and up. Following the screening\, we will host a group discussion ov
er a pizza and salad dinner to reflect on the film’s themes and to share
perspectives on how storytelling can create understanding and connection
across all abilities. This event is sponsored by the Diversity\, Equity\,
and Inclusion Committees of the Rotary Club of San Francisco and of Rotary
District 5150. Sign up now! Registration is available through September 1
