Ruth WenzelRuth Wenzel, a new and active member of the Rotary Club of San Francisco, will share the history and the beauty of one of America's most unique products — glass.

Ruth was born on Long Island, New York, but moved at an early age to West Virginia where her father was a safety engineer for Union Carbide. Her mother became good friends with the wife of William Blenko, Jr. of Blenko Glass Company. Glass was a big industry due to the availability of perfect sand, coal and natural gas, and water and rail connections. Ruth's mother collected Blenko glass and used it extensively in their home.

Ruth graduated from the Mary Hitchcock Hospital School of Nursing and became a registered nurse. She received a BA in Social Sciences from the College of Notre Dame de Namur, Belmont, CA, in 1983. She met her husband Dick, a civil engineer, and moved to California for Dick's continued studies.  Dick went on to work for BART and then the High Speed Rail project.

15 years ago, Ruth as a member of The American Legion Auxiliary asked the Mission San Jose Rotary Club in Fremont for a donation to the Girls State and Boys State programs in state government run by the Legion and the Auxiliary. The Mission San Jose Rotary Club agreed to generously fund her request and invited Ruth to join Rotary as well. She did and became their Club President in 2016-2017. Ruth joined the Rotary Club of San Francisco in April 2025.

This is a regular membership meeting of the Rotary Club of San Francisco, open to all Rotarians, visiting Rotarians, prospective members, and guests.
