Member pictureFew, if any of us, have escaped feeling lonely and depressed. We may have different words for it, “I feel down” or “blue”. Regardless of how we describe it, feeling sad is part of the human experience.  It is never a pleasant feeling; but it is usually endurable because it doesn’t last forever…at least in normal depression. Some people however, like the population of sging and older Adults, are at a much greater risk for these “ordinary” feelings of loneliness turning into a more serious expression of unresolved psychological problems, such as Clinical Depression.

Tom Briodi and Dr. Scott Arai will tell how the Institute on Aging is working to support seniors in dealing with this difficult issue.

Tom, a member of our own SF#2 since 2012, is the CEO for the Institute on Aging, an organization that enhances the quality of life for adults as they age by enabling them to maintain their health, well being, independence and participation in the community. Dr. Scott Arai is the Director of the Friendship Line at Institute on Aging. He is primarily responsible for the strategic, administrative and operational aspects of running a 24/7/365 crisis hotline specifically designed to prevent suicide within the aging and older adult population.

Enjoy lunch with your fellow Rotarians as we learn about issues that come closer to each of us every day.
