Doniece Sandoval, a former marketing/branding executive, has long cared about homelessness as an issue. But it wasn't until she passed a young woman on the street crying "she'd never be clean" that an idea for how to help came to her.

Inspired by her then-current obsession with mobile food, a fierce belief that everyone has the right to be clean, and her profound understanding that hygiene and dignity are deeply linked, Doniece created Lava Mae - the San Francisco-based mobile hygiene service for those experiencing homelessness.

Launched in June 2014, Lava Mae has provided over 10,000 showers for the men, women and children who make the streets of this city their home. You can find more information about Lava Mae at http://lavamae.org/.
