ROTARY LUNCHEON: Becka Robbins and Books Not Bans
Nov. 03, 2026 12:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Becka RobbinsBecka Robbins will speak to us about book bans, and her organization's efforts to defeat such bans. In an increasingly divisive political sphere, she focuses on raising money and looking for recipients. According to National Public Radio (NPR), her books have been sent to places such as a pride center in Texas and an LGBTQ-friendly high school in Alabama.

Becka founded Books Not Bans in 2023. In just three years, Books Not Bans has sent over 3,600 books by and about LGBTQ people to folks around America who have been denied them. Books Not Bans has been featured in the LA Times, Guardian U.K., CBS National, the Tokyo Shimbun, as well as other publications.

Becka is a former teacher and learning specialist who taught reading to dyslexic middle school students. She was a bookseller who launched her campaign against book bans at an LGBTQ bookstore and is on the production committee of Litquake. She lives in San Francisco with her spouse, their dog, Disco, and many, many books.

SERVICE PROJECT: Fall Rotary Meadow Service Event
Nov. 07, 2026 8:45 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

As the autumn season sets in, it’s time to come together once again to care for one of our community’s most cherished green spaces. Tending to Rotary Meadow helps preserve San Francisco's vibrant native ecology while giving us a wonderful chance to catch up and give back. Join us for a morning of fellowship, nature, and service as we tend to Rotary Meadow in the heart of Sutro Forest.

Whether you are ready to dig deep or prefer low-lift activities like light weeding, debris clearing, or simply handing out water and sharing in the fellowship, there is a meaningful way for you to contribute. This morning is about presence and community as much as it is about gardening, so if you can be there with a smile, you are doing enough.

This event is open to members and non-members; so bring your friends!

Important Guidelines: To ensure a safe and productive morning for everyone, please review the following:

Arrival: Please arrive 15 minutes early (8:30 AM) for registration and to sign the release form.

Preparation: Sutro Stewards leaders will provide orientation, training, gloves, and tools. You are also welcome to bring your own gardening gloves.

Attire: Closed-toe shoes are required. We recommend dressing in layers for the Sutro microclimate.

Health & Adaptations: If you would like to request specific volunteer adaptations, please contact Dan Davies

Parking Information: Parking is available at the site.

About Rotary Meadow:  Developed in partnership with the Sutro Stewards, the Meadow serves as a sanctuary for native plants as part of the 2001 Sutro Plan. Since its inception in 2004, it has been maintained through thousands of volunteer hours, ensuring that every hiker and nature lover in San Francisco has a beautiful "nature-walk-in-the-city" to enjoy.

ROTARY LUNCHEON: District Governor YuHui Chen
Nov. 10, 2026 12:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.

DG YuHui ChenJoin us as 2026-2027 District 5150 Governor YuHui Chen shares her vision for Rotary District 5150 and this year’s theme, Seasons of Love. Through personal stories, inspiration, and practical ideas, DG YuHui will discuss how we can strengthen our Club, grow membership, deepen engagement, and create lasting impact through service.

Her message highlights the power of connection, collaboration, and leadership — and how every Rotarian can help shape Rotary’s future. Come ready to be inspired, share ideas, and discover what we can accomplish together! One District. One Heart. Turning Love into Action. Creating Lasting Impact.

YuHui Chen’s journey began in Taiwan. But for the past 15 years, she has wholeheartedly embraced Palo Alto, California, as her true home. Guided by a deep conviction that true fitness encompasses the spirit, body, and mind, YuHui founded SBM Fitness in 2010 — not simply to inspire exercise, but to empower others to build lasting wellness, nurture self-belief, and embrace meaningful lifestyle changes.

Service is at the heart of everything YuHui does. For over 13 years, she has been an enthusiastic and dedicated member of the Rotary Club of Menlo Park, proudly serving as Club President in 2018 and leading numerous initiatives as District Vocational Service Chair and Rotary Means Business Committee Chair. One of her most profound experiences came in 2019, when she traveled to Uganda with 30 fellow Rotarians to install a clean water system for a community in need — a transformative journey that deepened her passion for global service and human connection.

YuHui shares her commitment to making a difference with her partner, Daniel Geraldi, the Rotary District 5160 Governor for 2024–2025. Together, they pour their energy and compassion into Rotary’s mission, always seeking new ways to bring positive change to both local neighborhoods and distant communities. YuHui’s adult children, Mia and Sean, are her steadfast supporters, actively participating in both her business and Rotary, and contributing their time and talents to community events.

For YuHui, Rotary is far more than service — it's a source of inspiration, growth, and belonging. She is deeply grateful for the extraordinary people she’s met, the communities she’s been able to serve, and the perspective she’s gained on leadership, generosity, and the power of bringing people together to change lives.

DEI Film for November: The Pilgrims
Nov. 15, 2026 3:30 p.m.

The PilgrimsAs we prepare to celebrate Thanksgiving, our November DEI Film Festival takes a look at the first English settlers to arrive in what is now Massachusetts.

The Pilgrims is a documentary that presents the history, religious origins, trans-Atlantic sailing, and first years of settlement Plymouth Colony established when the Mayflower arrived in 1620. The film separates historical facts from national myths, presenting us with a picture of struggles endured by these early settlers.

Created by filmmaker Ric Burns (father of Ken Burns), The Pilgrims was first broadcast in the U.S. in 2015 on PBS’ The American Experience.

This 90-minute film is rated PG.

The ticket price of $20 includes the film, snacks, beverages, dinner, and a discussion after the film. All are welcome to attend this inspiring and thought-provoking evening of film and conversation.

This event is sponsored by the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committees of the Rotary Club of San Francisco and of District 5150.

Thanksgiving at The Arc (2026)
Nov. 24, 2026 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

It's time for one of our most popular service projects — Thanksgiving at The Arc San Francisco! In the spirit of giving thanks, Rotarians will gather two days before the Holiday on Tuesday, November 24, 2026 to provide a Thanksgiving feast for participants at The Arc SF.

There are several ways to participate from helping to prepare food on Monday, November 23 or Tuesday, November 24 in the early morning or being a server or a member of the clean-up team. Volunteers are encouraged to mingle with The Arc clients and eat before or after their shift (seatings at 11:30 AM, 12 noon, and 12:30 PM).

📋 Please click here to sign up and to choose your shift.

The Arc SF is an organization that partners with adults with developmental disabilities; it was started by a group of parents concerned about a lack of services for their sons and daughters in San Francisco over 70 years ago. Since then, The Arc SF has become a primary resource for people with disabilities, helping them live, learn, work, and be part of their communities. The Arc SF provides opportunities for self-determination, dignity, and quality of life to over 750 participants with disabilities.

During this Thanksgiving Celebration, the Rotary Club of San Francisco will also deliver meals to Family House and Harbor Light.

We look forward to seeing you at this joyous and delicious event. If you have questions, please contact Dan Joraanstad.
