May 21, 2026 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
In 1908, after reading the newspaper announcement of the new Rotary Club of San Francisco, businessmen from east of the bay decided to meet to discuss establishing their own club. The day after Thanksgiving in 1908, Homer Wood, founder of the Rotary Club of San Francisco, took the ferry across the bay through the pouring rain to meet for lunch with Frank Bilger of an Oakland rock quarry and paving company, and 23 other businessmen at the Hotel Metropole in downtown Oakland. From there, the Rotary Club of Oakland was born. On May 21, 2026, members and guests of the Rotary Club of San Francisco are invited to join the Rotary Club of Oakland at the Oakland Club's meeting. The speaker will be USF Professor Stephen Zunes, who will speak on the war on Iran. Professor Zunes will examine the negative fiscal, humanitarian, diplomatic, strategic, and political consequences and what led to the decision to go to war.
Prior to the meeting, there will be a special reception beginning at 11:30 AM to celebrate the Rotary Club of San Francisco (Club No. 2) and the Rotary Club of Oakland (Club No. 3). This lunch meeting is in person only. Click here for options and payment. If you are attending, please let President Frank Yoke know by or before 3 PM on May 18, 2026.
