President Christopher Wiseman (Nonprofit Management | Glaucoma Research Foundation) logged in from Stockholm, Sweden and called the meeting to order at 12:15 PM Pacific time. Today's meeting was on Zoom only.

Today's Visiting Rotarian was Edgar Hernandez Delgado from a Rotary club in Morelia, Mexico. Today's guest was our speaker - Dan Walters.
 
Member Moment
New member Mary Fermi (Education | Retired) joined to share about her family, her vocations, and her life in San Francisco. She is excited about the upcoming wedding of one of her two sons and is very glad to have joined our Club.
 
Rotary 101
Dan Joraanstad (Financial Services: Advising | Retired) gave a recap of the Rotary 101 session held on August 9, 2022.
 
Bocce and Vino Social
Bob Hermann (Information Technology: Administration | Retired UCSF) talked about the recent social on August 12, 2022 where Rotarians and guests gathered to play bocce ball and enjoy a happy hour together.
 
 
Meeting Volunteers
President Christopher thanked today's meeting volunteers:  Dora Dye (Education: Elementary and Community College) for serving as scribe at this meeting; and Scott Plakun (Management Consulting | The Plakun Group) for managing our meeting on Zoom.
 
Club Calendar and Events for Rotarians
Check the Club's calendar for upcoming meetings and events. President Christopher shared activities hosted by neighboring Rotary clubs in which we can participate next week when our Club is not having a Tuesday luncheon. Rhonda Poppen (Grant Writing | GRANTdog) joined to promote the upcoming Homeless Prenatal Program diaper bag assembly and baby showers. Bob Hermann invited everyone to join the 2023 Emergency Services Day kick-off meeting.
 
Social Time
The audience joined breakout rooms to discuss a favorite hobby or a positive experience in another Rotary club.

John Mathers (Management Consulting | eVo Associates) encouraged us to participate in the following People of Action Summits by Rotary Zones 26 and 27 starting September 10, 2022:
David Dye (Management Consulting | Retired) chimed in to encourage everyone to attend the 2022 Rotary Zones 26/27 Institute.
 
On the same day (September 10, 2022), Rotary District 5170 will host an Environmental Summit on Green Transportation and Clean Energy. You can view more information here.
 
$20 for Twenty Seconds
Jim Patrick (Retail: Office Supplies | Patrick & Co.) donated to celebrate his son's trek to a base camp in Mount Everest. As Jim was speaking, his son was just six miles away from the base camp.
 
Bob Hermann donated to share his experience working with youth in an ALPS financial literacy project. He expressed appreciation for this experience and awe for the youth with whom he had worked.
 
Sunny Singh (Financial Services: Advising | PK Wealth Management) donated to celebrate his mother's birthday. His mother had passed away, but he and his brother continue to have a family dinner on her birthday to celebrate her.
 
Dan WaltersGuest Speaker
Larry Booth (Engineering: Mechanical | Frank M. Booth, Inc.) introduced today's speaker - Dan Walters. Dan writes a column on California politics four days a week and shared what is currently happening in Sacramento and in the state of California. Among his topics were Governor Newsom's future political plans, Proposition 27, the California high-speed rail, and water supply. President Christopher thanked Dan and announced that 100 children would be inoculated against polio in his name.
