President JT Forbus (Accounting | Bogdan & Frasco) celebrated Rue Paul's Drag Race that was launched on this date (February 2) in 2009. He then ushered everyone virtually to Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, FL where Super Bowl LV between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be played on February 7, 2021. David Dye (Management Consulting  | Retired) was singled out as the lone fan of the Kansas City Chiefs, and he expects the Chiefs to win another Super Bowl.

Global Scholar
President-Elect Mary Liu (Real Estate: Sales | JM Real Estate Group | Vanguard Properties) announced that the Trustees of Rotary Service, Inc. at its Board meeting on January 26, 2021 had approved the use of District Designated Funds to fund a Global Scholar.
 
Glaucoma Research Foundation Gala
Some members of our Club were in the audience of the first ever virtual Glaucoma 360 Gala on the evening of January 29, 2021. The evening began with a mocktail lesson and included music and recognitions. Tom Brunner (Nonprofit Management | Glaucoma Research Foundation) was the host. No one actually saw Christopher Wiseman (Event Planning | Glaucoma Research Foundation) on camera, but throughout the evening, we did see a long black glove whenever Christopher was near the camera. 
 
Your Rotary Moment
President JT showed a 1942 video clip of Paul Harris being interviewed by Chesley Perry, RI's first General Secretary, at Paul Harris' home. Perry asked Harris several questions about Rotary.
 
San Francisco Rotary Foundation
John Mathers (Management Consulting | eVo Associates) announced that the 50/50 Campaign was closing in on its target of $100,000; the amount is currently at $88,400. A new round of grant applications was received and reviewed in the month of January 2021. Also, the San Francisco Rotary Foundation is seeking an additional Board member.
 
$20 for Twenty Seconds
President JT announced that proceeds from today's $20 for Twenty Seconds would go to Safehouse and led off with his donation of $20.
  • Sally Swanson (Engineering, Architecture, and Construction | Sally Swanson Architects) and Erica Hewitt from the Rotary Club of San Francisco Evening club joined President JT in donating.
  • Anita Stangl donated to celebrate being able to renew by phone with the DMV instead of in person. She also did not have to take the DMV test.
  • Maureen O'Shea (Governmental Relations | Retired) donated to celebrate the many volunteers who helped at the San Francisco-Marin Food Bank and with TogetherSF.
  • James Kennedy donated to celebrate today's Paul Harris winners.
  • Rhonda Poppen (Grant Writing | GRANTdog) donated to celebrate her earning the Grant Professional Credential.
  • Eric Schmautz (Banking: Management | Wells Fargo) donated to celebrate the completion of the Vietnam Global Grant.

Today's Speaker
Christopher Wiseman introduced today's speaker, Sharon Sayles Belton. Christopher has known Sharon for close to a decade. Sharon is Vice President of Strategic Partnerships and Alliance for Thomson Reuters, Government and served as mayor of Minneapolis, MN from 1994 to 2001. In her presentation, she showed us how to play a meaningful role as a citizen and stakeholder in the future of America through community engagement. She pointed out that as Rotarians, we were already playing this role. President JT thanked Sharon and announced that 100 children would be inoculated against polio in her name.
