President Christopher Wiseman (Nonprofit Management | Glaucoma Research Foundation) called the meeting to order and welcomed those online and those attending in person inside the Anzu Restaurant at the Hotel Nikko on a very stormy and windy Tuesday.

JT ForbusNew Tax Deadline
JT Forbus (Accounting | Bogdan & Frasco) updated our Club on the new tax deadlines. Due to the recent storms of an historical nature, the federal tax deadline has been extended to October 16, 2023. The California Franchise Tax Board has also extended its deadline to October 16, 2023.

Also held on March 8, 2023 was Rotary District 5150's International Women's Day celebration. Our Club took time at our luncheon on March 14, 2023 to talk about the Rotary Club of Duarte, the first Rotary club to admit women.
 
President Christopher thanked Mary Liu (Real Estate: Sales | JM Real Estate Group) for the Cameron House Comfort Bag Assembly and Dim Sum Lunch on March 11, 2023.

Rick Harrell (Arts Therapy | Heroes' Voices) invited everyone to his Heroes' Voices concert on March 26, 2023 and talked about the need for volunteers.
 
Angelina Preza (Sales: Travel | Aquarium of the Bay) invited everyone to Wine, Women, & Shoes on March 30, 2023.
 
District Assembly: President Christopher invited everyone to attend the 2023 District Assembly on March 25, 2023 to cheer for President-Elect Sunny Singh as he begins his year as our Club's President.
 
District Conference: If you have not already registered, there is still time to register for the 2023 District 5150 Conference to be held in Monterey, CA from April 28 through April 30, 2023.
 
Rotary Day of Service: Save May 13, 2023 on your calendar when we will join Rotarians from throughout San Francisco to clean the area around the Bison Paddock in Golden Gate Park. Stephanie Schmautz (Elder Care and Senior Services | The Carlisle) is leading this event and seeking at least 100 volunteers. If interested, please contact Stephanie.
 
Wine Donation: Our Club will be receiving a donation of 100 bottles of wine that we plan to sell. If you can serve on the Committee, please contact President Christopher.

Emily Borland (Engineering, Architecture, and Construction | Emily Borland Specifications) donated to wish Anita Stangl (Medical Services | Alliance for Smiles) a speedy recovery from her hip replacement surgery. Emily also donated in memory of Buddy - the dog that belonged to Rhonda Poppen (Grant Writing | GRANTdog) and Bill Poppen (Banking: Management | MUFG Union Bank).

Anita Stangl donated to thank the many Rotarians who came forward to help her through her recent hip replacement surgery. 
 
Jessica HansenGuest Speaker
Anita Stangl joined via Zoom and introduced today's speaker - Jessica Hansen. Jessica is the Executive Director at Alliance for Smiles. She is also a TEDx Speaker, a Senior Strategist at Impact Travel Alliance, Vice President of the Board of the West Africa Voluntary Organization, and host of The HumanKind Project podcast. Jessica has been a member of the Rotary Club of San Francisco since 2020.
 
Jessica talked about her experiences at Burning Man, the application of Radical Inclusion, Diversity & Equity, and the sustainability efforts. The ten principles of Burning Man are:
  • Radical inclusion - all are welcome to Burning Man
  • Gifting - devoted to gift giving. 
  • Decommodification - creation of social environments free of commercial sponsorships, transactions, or advertising. 
  • Radical self-reliance - relying on your inner resources. 
  • Radical self-expression - using the individual's unique gifts. 
  • Communal effort - exercising creative cooperation and collaboration. 
  • Civic responsibility - obeying the law. 
  • Leaving no trace - cleaning up and leaving the space better than when we found it. 
  • Participation - encouraging deep personal participation. 
  • Immediacy - achieving immediate experience.
President Christopher thanked Jessica Hansen and announced that 100 children would be inoculated against polio in her name.
