President Christopher Wiseman (Nonprofit Management | Glaucoma Research Foundation) called the meeting to order and shared some historical facts about the San Francisco Police Department.
 
Visiting Rotarians and Guests
Today's Visiting Rotarians were District Governor Nominee and Chief of Staff Steve Wright from the Rotary Club of Pacifica, Carrie Chinn and Rick Chinn from the Rotary Club of Millbrae, Julia Spark from the Rotary Club of Busselton-Geographe Bay in Australia, Marilyn Becklehimer from the Rotary Club of San Francisco Sunset, and Rey Naik from the Rotary Club of San Francisco Evening. Maureen O'Shea (Governmental Relations | Retired) introduced her guests: Catherine Liang (our reigning Miss California), Daniel Riley, Debra Leylegian, Robert Beedle, and Torrance Bynum. Luis Moran (Real Estate: Sales | Coldwell Banker) introduced his guest, Blaire Jahn. Other guests were Carrie Shucker, Jackie Herrin, Guadalupe Valenzuela, Lilli Milton, Sergeant Vic Lee, and today's speaker - San Francisco Police Chief Bill Scott.

Maureen O'SheaClub Calendar and Events for Rotarians
Check the Club's calendar for upcoming meetings and events in October 2022. Coming up on October 18, 2022 will be our Club's First Annual Fashion Show. Maureen O’Shea is chairing the "Puttin' on the Glitz" Fashion Show and Friend Raiser. She talked about the program that she and her Committee had planned. Andi Valo-Espina (Haberdashery | Andrea-E-Soci Custom Tailoring) will be supplying some of the fashions for the Fashion Show. Two of the models will be Miss California (Catherine Liang) and Andrés Vera (Entertainment | Self-Employed).
 
Grant Presentation 
Past President Rhonda Poppen (Grant Writing | GRANTdog) and current chair of the Club’s project to support the Homeless Prenatal Program (HPP) introduced Lilli Milton, HPP’s Director of Programs and Community Services, and Lupe Valenzuela, Wellness Program Manager. Luis Moran, President of the San Francisco Rotary Foundation (SFRF) awarded a $12,000 grant to support the purchase of baby supplies and the baby showers for expectant mothers participating in HPP.
 
Lupe ValenzuelaLupe Valenzuela spoke about the valuable opportunities that HPP gives to homeless, expectant mothers. 21 years ago, she was a client of HPP. The program helped her to turn her life around and get the counseling and training she needed. Now, she is proud to be working for this organization and to help the HPP mothers-to-be turn their lives around.
 
$20 for Twenty Seconds
Luis Moran donated to honor the HPP. The HPP had helped his business associate and guest today, Blaire Jahn.
 
Induction into the Paul Harris Society
Carrie Chinn, a member of the Rotary Club of Millbrae and a member of Rotary District 5150's TRF Committee, presided over the induction of nine members of our Club into the Paul Harris Society. She presented certificates to each of the inductees. The nine new Paul Harris society members are:
 
 
The Paul Harris Society recognizes Rotary members and friends of The Rotary Foundation who contribute $1,000 or more each Rotary year to the Annual Fund, PolioPlus Fund, or approved Foundation grants.

Special Award Presentation
District Governor Nominee and Chief of Staff Steve Wright presented a special certificate to the Rotary Club of San Francisco to recognize our Club's generous support of the PolioPlus program.
 
Guest Speaker
San Francisco Police Chief Bill Scott Today's guest speaker was San Francisco Police Chief Bill Scott who talked about public safety and how he became this City's police chief. When he was sworn in as San Francisco’s new police chief in January 2017, he vowed to build trust both within the department and outside it. The Chief also answered questions or concerns that our audience had regarding public safety in our City. President Christopher thanked San Francisco Police Chief Bill Scott and announced that 100 children would be inoculated against polio in his name.
