Congratulations to District 5150 Governor-Elect Laine Hendricks from the Rotary Club of San Francisco who completed her Governor-Elect Training Seminar (GETS) the week of November 6, 2022 at the Rotary Zones 26 and 27 Conference held in Salt Lake City, UT.

In attendance from our Club to celebrate with DGE Laine were PDG Eric Schmautz, Past Club President Stephanie Schmautz, and their daughters, Molly and Katie, Past Club President David Dye, and Dora Dye. They were joined by other Rotarians from District 5150 including District Governor Gary Chow, Past District Governor Danielle Lallement, Past District Governor Mary Bates, Past District Governor Jayne Hulbert, Past District Governor Ron Gin, Past District Governor Jeri Fujimoto, Past District Governor Russ Ketron, and District Governor Nominee Steve Wright.

In addition to GETS, there was also the Zone Institute that brought together members and guests from throughout the western United States and Canada. The Institute featured:
  • Interactive, peer-based discussion and learning sessions. David Dye facilitated a session on how to reconnect and engage Interactors, Rotaractors, and other Rotary youth programs.
  • Inspirational speakers and presentations.
  • Special program for Emerging Rotary Leaders from all 30 Districts in the Zones.
  • Service activities.
  • Networking, food, and fun! We even celebrated DG Gary's birthday!

Attendees participated in the World Café where they worked in small groups to explore how Rotarians can help to achieve peace. The result from three hours of dialogue was this map:

We were all honored to meet in person and hear from the incoming 2023-24 Rotary International President Gordon R. McInally (South Queensferry, Lothian, Scotland), the current General Secretary and Chief Executive Officer John Hewko, the 2021-2023 Rotary International Director Vicki Puliz who represents Rotary Zones 26 and 27, and Thandeka Tutu-Gxashe who is the eldest daughter of deceased Archbishop Desmond and Nomalizo Tutu and CEO of the Desmond Tutu Tutudesk Campaign, a campaign to provide lap desks to school children in Sub-Saharan Africa.
