The Rotary Club of San Francisco recently hosted an inspiring Welcome to the Club party on the third floor of the McRoskey Mattress Company, overlooking Market Street. Thanks to Robin Azevedo for supplying the abundant space. The large plate glass windows provided a kinetic view and soundscape of Market Street, with late afternoon sunlight streaming through the windows, casting a warm and inviting glow over the gathering.

The event began with an extended social period, allowing attendees to mingle, exchange ideas, and enjoy beverages and delicious bites. This relaxed atmosphere set the tone for an engaging evening where new connections were made, and fresh ideas were shared.

The evening was organized by Vice President of Membership Margaret Miley. The program commenced with Dan Joraanstad from the Membership Committee welcoming the crowd and introducing President Bob Hermann. President Bob shared his vision for the upcoming year, emphasizing the importance of service, friendship, and community engagement. Dan returned to introduce the program. The attendees formed small groups to brainstorm potential projects and social events for August, leading to a lively discussion.

Several exciting ideas emerged, including:

  • Monarchs and Milkweed Fundraiser.
  • Whale Watching.
  • Beach Clean-up: with a $1,000 environmental grant available to support the initiative.
  • Clay Pottery Class: learning pottery skills in a creative workshop.
  • Cooking Class: exploring culinary arts together.
  • Improv Workshop: followed by a dinner to enhance team bonding.
  • Ballgame Outing: enjoying a day at the ballpark.
  • Bocce Ball: engaging in a fun and competitive game.
As the discussions progressed, people became better acquainted and discovered shared interests. The evening concluded on a high note with three attendees asking for membership applications, and newly installed members expressing their enjoyment and enthusiasm.

Overall, the Welcome to the Club party was a resounding success, fostering a sense of community and excitement among new and prospective members. The Rotary Club of San Francisco looks forward to many more engaging gatherings in the months to come.
