In the heart of bustling San Francisco lies a hidden gem where tranquility meets community, and nature’s canvas flourishes under the care of dedicated volunteers. Yes, we are talking about Rotary Meadow in Sutro Forest right behind UCSF Medical Center on Parnassus. Recently added trails provide easy access to Rotary Meadow where walkers, hikers, and bicyclists can enjoy the quiet but beautiful areas.
These areas are maintained by volunteers including our Rotary Club of San Francisco who participated. Rotary Meadow, as we learned from Ildiko Polony, Executive Director of Sutro Stewards, tells us the importance of removing invasive species of plants and preserving biodiversity in our urban landscape. This work is so important as we face evolving challenges with climate change in our world.
Ildiko stated that she was excited to host an Earth Day Event on April 20th with our District 5150, as this will give many more Rotarians the opportunity to serve and experience nature in its fullest glory. See here to register for April 20.
Special thanks to Project Leader Dan Davies who led a number of Rotarians who participated in the gardening and weeding event on March 9, 2024. During our weeding work, we had the pleasure of being visited by a hawk and a red salamander.
