On September 5, 2024, the Rotary Revealed Series, Part 2 provided an overview of the Club's Visioning process. This initiative will help establish our Club's goals for the next three years.

President Bob Hermann kicked things off by recounting that earlier this year, through surveys, Zoom meetings, and in-person conferences, he led the Club in discussions on the most important objectives for the upcoming years. President Bob highlighted the four guiding themes shaping our discussion: Impact, Reach, Engage, and Adapt.

Guiding Themes:
  • Impact: The effect or influence we have on people and communities.
  • Reach: How far our message and service extend.
  • Engage: Connecting with each other and our communities.
  • Adapt: Responding to changes in our environment and the people we serve.

The results are in, and the number one quality we want our Club to be known for is "building friendships and having fun while working together." In fact, this was voted as our new mission statement.

Following Rotary’s four guideposts, let’s consider the concept of Impact and how it connects with our mission. There's no more fundamental impact than creating friendships, working together, and having fun.

We also established that education is one of our key aspirations, aligning with the Reach theme. Starting with our own members, we aim to ensure that everyone is familiar with the multiple projects we are working on this year, so they can actively participate and collaborate. For Engage, we have explored ideas to work with corporations that offer paid volunteer time to their employees. From large companies like Google to smaller ones like Honest Tea, we can connect with like-minded organizations and individuals. We've also identified potential partners to invite into our signature projects, such as the Bike Build and Emergency Services Day. For example, new member Kayla Trunecek suggested that the Bike Coalition could be an excellent partner for the Bike Build. President-Elect Frank Yoke is willing to draw on his decades of outreach to help find new partnerships. Both Kayla and PE Frank are planning an action group with an outreach to new partners.

Last, we recognize that our Club must Adapt to our changing environment. Our strong reputation for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) is a core value of our Club. However, as we look to expand our reach further into San Francisco, we must consider where our Club is underrepresented and how we can adapt to engage more deeply with the community. In particular, partnering with Latin organizations will help us strengthen a currently underrepresented area in our membership.

Moving forward, we aim to create interest groups focused on developing partnerships for our larger projects and reaching out to the Latin community. We also welcome your interest in joining the Vision Steering Committee. If you'd like to get involved with either of these interest groups, please reach out to any member of the current Steering Committee: JT Forbus, Bob Hermann, Dan Joraanstad, Lisa Stark, and Frank Yoke.
