On June 28, 2025, ten Rotarians gathered at the San Francisco-Marin Food Bank warehouse on Pennsylvania Avenue to take large bags of rice and pack them into one pound bags for distribution to those in need of food assistance. Along with the approximately 40 volunteers from outside the Rotary community, our group bagged 2,175 pounds of rice in 145 15-pound boxes. Each bag of rice is considered to be the carbohydrate component of one meal, though our Food Bank orientation expert mentioned that one bag of rice can sometimes last for multiple meals.
Rotarians were separated into two groups across two tables. The tasks included: packing the rice into a plastic bag; checking that each bag contained one pound of rice; and sealing, labeling, and boxing the bags. Each person took one task on the assembly line. Each Rotary group was able to socialize at their table and get to know each other better while working together. All in all, everyone enjoyed the service project and deemed it a success!
