Charlies Miles, Stephen Geisheker, Donna Duensing, and Lynn LuckowWith camaraderie and community, the Rotary Club of San Francisco resumed its beloved tradition of hosting Welcome-to-the-Club parties. These gatherings, which had been a cherished fixture on a quarterly basis before the challenges brought about by COVID-19, have made a triumphant return to the Club’s calendar. The first of these parties was recently held on the evening of August 24, 2023.

Margaret Miley, with her signature warmth and hospitality, graciously hosted the event while the dedicated efforts of Dan Joraanstad and Margaret herself were instrumental in organizing an evening that proved to be nothing short of a smashing success. The atmosphere buzzed with excitement as Club leadership, both established and emerging, gathered to celebrate this auspicious occasion. The event was graced by a crowd of 35 new and prospective members as well as Club leaders, each contributing to the vibrant tapestry of our ever-growing Rotary family.
Club President Sunny Singh and District Governor Laine Hendricks added a touch of distinction to the evening as they addressed the gathering. Their words resonated with inspiration, underscoring the significance of Rotary’s mission in fostering positive change and service within the community.

A hallmark of these Welcome-to-the-Club parties is the insightful short program that offers a glimpse into the unique service experiences and aspirations of new and prospective members. Attendees broke into three small groups led by Alisha Marfatia, Lynn Luckow and Mary Liu. Participants eagerly shared stories of their diverse encounters with service opportunities, as well as visions for the Club’s future. Amidst the convivial conversations and networking, attendees were treated to delectable food and drink, further enhancing the spirit of fun that defines our Club. The evening overflowed not only with gastronomic delights but also with a genuine sense of goodwill and enthusiasm that exemplifies the Rotary spirit.

As we look back at our first Welcome-to-the-Club party in years, it’s clear that the bonds of friendship and the commitment to service remain as strong as ever. Vice President of Membership Margaret and the Membership Committee extend gratitude to all who contributed to the success of this memorable event and eagerly anticipate the future Welcome-to-the-Club parties that will undoubtedly continue to shape our journey of fellowship and service.

Stay tuned for more updates and highlights as we host more Welcome-to-the Club parties in this Rotary year. If you’re interested in hosting such a party, please contact Margaret or Dan.
