The Rotary Club of San Francisco hosted about 30 people at the Welcome to the Club reception for new and prospective members on April 3, 2024. The event was put together by Vice President of Membership Margaret Miley and held at the home of Dan Joraanstad and Bob Hermann. Several of our recent new members and a large number of new people exploring membership participated in the evening.

After about 45 minutes of beverages and bites, the program for the evening unfolded with Dan Joraanstad serving as emcee, introducing President Sunny Singh for remarks and then three Club leaders: Alisha Marfatia, Frank Yoke, and Bob Hermann. Each of them led about 10 people to talk over the following topics:

  • the establishment of an evening Club meeting to be held once a month. There was a lot of excitement during this topic!
  • mental health and loneliness which is an epidemic for both young and old people. How can Rotarians help to combat loneliness for both groups?
  • benefits of being a Rotarian. What do members seek from Rotary and what does Rotary provide?
The takeaways were the following:
  • Networking with Business Leaders is a vocational advantage.
  • Learning how to create a grant and manage a project are hands-on ways to sharpen basic and advanced business skills.
  • Our Club pays for the Potential Rotary Leaders Seminars (PRLS) to hone business, communication, and leadership skills.
