Join us at our third annual iftar — a dinner to break the fast during Ramadan. Experience an evening filled with warmth, cultural exchange, and delicious cuisine as we celebrate the Rotary spirit of unity and diversity. This year’s iftar will be held at a new location — Kapari Restaurant, 668 Sacramento Street in San Francisco.
As proud members of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee, we are excited to bring together individuals from all walks of life to commemorate the holy month of Ramadan. This year is especially meaningful as we will gather on the last day of Ramadan and break the final fast of the month together.
Ramadan is a sacred month observed by millions of Muslims from diverse cultures, backgrounds, and nationalities around the world. It is a time of fasting, self-reflection, gratitude, and devotion. During this month, Muslims abstain from food and drink from sunrise to sunset, engaging in prayer, reflection, and acts of charity. The breaking of the fast at sunset, known as iftar, is an opportunity for community, celebration, and remembrance.
Ramadan holds deep significance for Muslims as it commemorates the month in which the Quran was first revealed to Prophet Muhammad. While Ramadan is a religious observance, it also carries universal values such as self-discipline, empathy, generosity, and compassion. It reminds us of the importance of gratitude, service to others, and strengthening community ties, values that closely align with the spirit of Rotary.
The iftar is a unique opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations, foster understanding, and embrace the rich tapestry of traditions that make our community vibrant. In Türkiye, Ramadan is also a deeply rooted cultural tradition. Families and friends gather around large tables, restaurants prepare special menus, and hospitality takes center stage. We are honored to share a Turkish-style Ramadan experience with our Club members and guests.
The program will begin at 6:30 PM as this event will take place instead of our regular Evening Meeting. President Frank will open the Meeting and share brief Club updates. We will then discuss the significance and traditions of Ramadan. At approximately 7:20 PM, when the sun sets, we will break the fast together and enjoy a traditional Turkish dinner. In accordance with Ramadan customs, no food or drink will be served until sunset, and no alcohol will be served. The menu includes one soft drink per person, options for vegetarians, vegans, and those who avoid gluten.
The cost is $50 per person, which includes the food, drinks, and fellowship. If you have dietary restrictions, please specify when buying tickets. Space is limited to 40 guests. The last day to buy tickets is Sunday, March 15, 2026 so that we can give a final count to the restaurant. NO WALK-INS ACCEPTED.
Please note that ticket sales are non-refundable but may be transferred to another attendee.
