All Club members, our families, and our friends are invited to attend a Kwanzaa celebration and dinner hosted by the OMI Cultural Participation Project (OMI-CPP). Maurice Rivers, the Executive Director of OMI-CPP, is a member of our Club. The Rotary Club of San Francisco is a Community Partner for this event.
Kwanzaa is an African American celebrating family, community, history, and culture. The name of the holiday is derived from the Swahili phrase matunda ya kwanza, meaning “fruits of the harvest.”
Kwanzaa focuses on seven key principles, identified in Swahili:
- Umoja - Unity
- Kujichagulia - Self-Determination
- Ujima - Collective Work and Responsibility
- Ujamaa - Cooperative Economics
- Nia - Purpose
- Kuumba - Creativity
- Imani – Faith
There is no charge for this event that begins at 5:30 PM. Please arrive promptly so you do not disturb the ceremony. CLICK HERE for additional information on this event.
