Join us for an evening filled with warmth, cultural exchange, and delicious cuisine as we celebrate the spirit of unity and diversity with the San Francisco Rotary Club at our upcoming iftar, a dinner to break the fast at Ramadan on March 20th at Troya Mediterranean Kitchen on Fillmore Street.
As proud members of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee, we are excited to bring together individuals from all walks of life to commemorate the holy month of Ramadan.
Ramadan is a sacred month observed by millions of Muslims from diverse cultures, backgrounds, and nationalities, all around the world. It is a time of fasting, self-reflection, and heightened devotion. During this month, Muslims abstain from food and drink from sunrise to sunset, engaging in prayer, spiritual reflection, and acts of charity. The breaking of the fast at sunset is an opportunity for celebration and remembrance.
Ramadan holds deep significance for Muslims as it commemorates the month in which the Quran, the holy book of Islam, was first revealed to Prophet Muhammad. While Ramadan is a religious holiday for many, it also is important for those who are not religious as a time for self-discipline, empathy, and compassion. It serves as a reminder of the importance of gratitude to a higher power, charity in society, and understanding each other.
The iftar is a unique opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations, foster understanding, and embrace the rich tapestry of traditions that make our community vibrant.
The program will begin at 7 PM with explanations and discussions of the importance of Ramadan and what it symbolizes. At about 7:30, when the sun goes down, we will share the joy of breaking the fast together, savoring a diverse array of culinary delights, and building connections that transcend cultural boundaries. In accordance with Muslim practice, no food or drink will be served until the sun sets, and no alcohol will be served. One soft drink per person is included in the $60 cost per person.
This event is open to Club members and guests alike, embodying our Club's commitment to inclusivity and harmony. But space is limited, so be sure to sign up now. Registration closes at the end of the day on Sunday, March 17.
The menu includes options for vegetarians, vegans, and those who avoid gluten. The cost is $60 per person, which includes tax, tip, and fees.
We cannot accommodate walk-ins.
Please plan to arrive in time to find parking (which can be difficult in this neighborhood) and get settled in time for us to begin the program at 7 PM.
