Sissy Spacek and Whoopi GoldbergOur January DEI Film Festival movie is The Long Walk Home. This powerful drama follows two women in Montgomery, Alabama during the 1955–56 Bus Boycott, one Black and one white, whose lives become intertwined during one of the most pivotal moments of the Civil Rights Movement. Through their personal choices and growing courage, the film highlights the impact of ordinary citizens who stood up for justice and equality.

Starring Whoopi Goldberg and Sissy Spacek, The Long Walk Home offers a thoughtful look at how the boycott challenged social norms, reshaped relationships, and helped spark nationwide change. The movie provides an ideal lead-in to Martin Luther King Jr. Day and reminds us of the collective strength that drives social progress.

Following the screening, we will host a group discussion over wine, snacks, and pizza. This is a great opportunity to reflect on the themes of the film and the continued relevance of the Civil Rights Movement today.

The Long Walk Home is rated PG.
