Becka RobbinsBecka Robbins will speak to us about book bans, and her organization's efforts to defeat such bans. In an increasingly divisive political sphere, she focuses on raising money and looking for recipients. According to NPR, her books have been sent to places such as a pride center in Texas and an LGBTQ-friendly high school in Alabama.

Becka founded Books Not Bans in 2023. In just three years, Books Not Bans has sent over 3,600 books by and about LGBTQ people to folks around America who have been denied them. Books Not Bans has been featured in the LA Times, Guardian U.K., CBS National, the Tokyo Shimbun, as well as other publications.

Becka is a former teacher and learning specialist who taught reading to dyslexic middle school students. She was a bookseller who launched her campaign against book bans at an LGBTQ bookstore and is on the production committee of Litquake. She lives in San Francisco with her spouse, their dog, Disco, and many, many books.
