Blue Bear School of Music is the original school of rock and roll. It was founded as “Blue Bear Waltzes School of Genuine Music” in the summer of 1971. For over 50 years, Blue Bear has provided music education to the community and has an active outreach program to underserved neighborhoods that provides free music education to kids at over 20 sites in San Francisco. All ages, from tykes to seniors, participate in classes, individual instruction, and band workshops. In 1978 operations moved from the original storefront on Ocean Avenue to Fort Mason Center, where Blue Bear has thrived and evolved to its current state of more than 850 music-loving students per quarter.
Blue Bear’s current Board of Trustees and Staff includes Peter Logan who is an active member in our Rotary Club!. Day-to-day operations are under the direction of Dennis Criteser, a former student who has been associated with the school since 1979, and co-founder Dr. Steven Savage. Dr. Savage is the Executive Director and President of the Board of Trustees at Blue Bear School of Music.
In today’s program, Steve Savage will introduce the school, and then, we will be treated to a performance by talented students and staff.
