ROTARY LUNCHEON: JoEllen Arntz and SMUIN Contemporary Ballet

JoEllen Arntz, Company Manager and Wardrobe Supervisor of the SMUIN Contemporary Ballet, will present a very unique view of the Ballet World that is sure to please both adults and children. She will bring authentic SMUIN ballet costumes for the audience to view. Members and guests are encouraged to bring their children and grandchildren to this luncheon who will be allowed to come to the front of the room to view the costumes closely and see how they are made.

JoEllen Arntz moved to San Francisco after receiving her BFA in dance from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. She danced with the San Francisco Ballet from 1981-1991 and has been teaching dance in the Bay Area since 1977, recently celebrating 20 years on faculty at the Marin Dance Theater. JoEllen also taught at the prestigious and now closed Miss Tilly’s Ballet and Theater Arts for children. She began at SMUIN as Wardrobe Supervisor in 1996 and became Company Manager shortly thereafter. Working with Michael Smuin at the San Francisco Ballet and later his own company prepared her for the multiple hats she wears in the organization today.

For in-person attendees: The cost for in-person registration (including children) is $45 if you register early until 11:59 AM on Friday, August 4, 2023. When the clock strikes noon on Friday, August 4, 2023, the price will go up to $60. If you show up at the door on Tuesday, August 8, 2023 as a walk-in, you will be charged $60. Please note that once Past President Mary Liu provides the headcount to the Hotel Nikko on the Friday before our Tuesday meeting, we will be billed for that count regardless of whether you show or not. 

For attendance via Zoom: For those who wish to participate via Zoom, there is a $10 fee to attend.

Parking: If you are driving to the Hotel Nikko for this meeting, please leave your car with the Hotel Nikko valet. Pick up a validation sticker available at our check-in table. The discounted parking is $17.50 for three hours.
