This September, our DEI Film Festival is recognizing Healthy Aging Month by featuring On Golden Pond.
Beautifully filmed at a lake in New Hampshire, On Golden Pond explores the challenges and joys of multi-generational relationships within a family, featuring Henry Fonda and Jane Fonda (as an aging father and adult daughter who have long had a difficult relationship), and Katharine Hepburn (the wife and mother). Things get interesting when the daughter introduces her new boyfriend to her parents … and the boyfriend’s young son.
Released in 1981, this film won many awards including Oscars for Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Adapted Screenplay. It was also nominated for Best Picture, Best Supporting Actress, Best Director, Best Cinematography, and more. It is rated PG.
We’re experimenting with a new format for this film, asking that you view it on your own and then participate in a Zoom discussion at 8 PM on Wednesday, September 23. Please consider sponsoring a “watch party” by inviting friends, family, and/or Club members to view the film with you. All are welcome to join the Zoom discussion.
On Golden Pond is widely available:
- Streaming: Amazon Prime, Peacock, Apple TV, Kanopy, YouTube TV, Sling, Tubi, Plex, Pluto TV, Google Play Movie, Fandango, Philo, and others. It is available without charge OR a small fee on many of these services.
- DVD: Borrow from libraries in San Francisco, Marin, and San Mateo counties, or purchase it (Amazon sells it for as little as $10.29.)
You will receive information about how to connect to the Zoom discussion when you register.
This event is sponsored by the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committees of the Rotary Club of San Francisco and of District 5150.
