Our Club via the San Francisco Rotary Foundation has given a $7,500 grant to the Salvation Army Kroc Center Literacy Program and Lending Library. As a result of this grant, Rotarians from our Club are invited to participate in a twofold process. First is the evaluation process (i.e., administering reading assessments) before the start of the Program. Next, volunteers will work 1:1 or in group book club settings to encourage students to reach reading goals and provide prizes and incentives for students who meet reading challenge goals, such as book vouchers, prizes, and recognition through awards and certificates. This project aims to create a positive and impactful learning environment that promotes a love for reading and learning.
In advance of the evaluation process, the Salvation Army will conduct a training for the system that is being utilized. The training will take place on September 18, 2024 and will involve interaction with the students. The training will be held at the Kroc Center around 4:30 PM with parking available.
