Today in History
President Ozan shared that on August 11, 1942, a patent was issued for frequency-hopping technology. This type of technology was the forerunner for the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth that we use today.
 
The Alamos Project
Lisa Stark (Communications & Media) presented on this joint literacy project between our Club and the Catalina Rotary Club in Tucson. The project includes a trip from November 10 to November 16, 2026 to Tucson, Arizona; Guaymas, Mexico; and Álamos, Mexico. If you are interested in this project and trip or have any questions, please contact Lisa Stark.
 
Grant Presentation to The Arc San Francisco
Former Member Esther Landau and her guest — Alia, both from The Arc San Francisco, talked about how the Friends Like Me and Supper Club programs have helped many adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to reduce loneliness and build friendship.
 
San Francisco Rotary Foundation Treasurer Emily Borland (Engineering, Architecture, and Construction | Emily Borland Specifications) presented a check in the amount of $6,500 to The Arc San Francisco to help with the Friends Like Me program. Esther and Alia accepted the check and thanked our Club and the San Francisco Rotary Foundation for the generous support.

RYLA at 40RYLA Celebrates 40 Years
Past President Mary Liu (Real Estate: Sales | JM Real Estate Group, Inc.), Past President Bob Hermann, Jr. (Information Technology: Administration | Retired), and Past President Sunny Singh (Financial Services: Advising | PK Wealth Management) shared the history of RYLA and their recent experiences at the 2026 Camp on August 1-5, 2026. This year, RYLA celebrated its 40th anniversary. There will be another presentation on RYLA at a future meeting of our Club.

Guest Speaker
Past President Bob Hermann introduced today's speaker — San Francisco Supervisor Connie Chan. Supervisor Chan has served on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors since 2021 and as Budget Chair since 2023. She represents District 1, including the Inner Richmond, Central Richmond, Outer Richmond, Lone Mountain, Golden Gate Park, Lincoln Park, University of San Francisco, Sea Cliff, and Presidio Terrace. She has worked to protect critical health and food security programs against Trump cuts, advocated for small businesses, supported the creation of affordable senior housing. and provided legal support and services to our immigrant community. She spoke to our Club about her goal to continue to serve the needs of our community . 
 
President Ozan thanked SF Supervisor Chan and announced that 100 children would be inoculated against polio in her name.
