On Tuesday, October 17, 2023, the Rotary Club of San Francisco – the second oldest Rotary Club in the world - hosted its Second Annual Fashion Show Luncheon at the elegant Hotel Nikko in San Francisco. This year's theme was “Glitz and Glamour,” and there were plenty of both.
The event began with a beautiful reception and wine auction that showcased wines. These wines were donated from a private collection that is stored for the Rotary Club of San Francisco at the Handlery Hotel. Special Hint: More wine auctions will be offered throughout the year!
Following the reception, Club President Sunny Singh welcomed attendees, showcasing his charm and wit to both the Rotarians and the many non-Rotarians. Attendees enjoyed a delicious three-course lunch, which was paired with complimentary white and red wine. President Sunny then introduced Vern Glenn, Sports Director at KPIX 5 TV and multi-Emmy® Award winner. Vern discussed his thoughts on the Super Bowl, San Francisco, Fashion, and life. After his exciting presentation, he led a Q&A, giving attendees an opportunity to ask Vern, a known celebrity, anything!
After some table talk, the Fashion Show began. The room was filled with local philanthropists, socialites, and many current and future Rotarians! The organization and management of the Fashion Show were led by Vice President of Development Maureen O’Shea, with event management support from Robert Hunter, CEO of the prestigious event planning firm, Hunter Events. Club Member Robert Beadle also led the leadership by promoting the event, bringing in new communities, and providing valuable input. I, Christopher Wiseman, as Immediate Past President, served as the Emcee and joined the stage after table talk in a stunning pink and white blazer. The Show began with a drawing that included some fabulous prizes! Following the complimentary drawing, attendees had an opportunity to bid on a case of wine, which was sold to socialite John Newmeyer, the brother of Tony Award winner actor Julie Newmar whom you may know as Catwoman!
Once the Fashion Show began, over 18 outfits were featured by Club members, friends of the Club, and local celebrities. The majority of the outfits were from local retailers Button Down and Andrea Custom Tailoring (owned and operated by Club Member Andi Valo-Espina).
Featured models include Alliana Lili Yang (classically trained vocalist and actor), Donna Sachet (The First Lady of the Castro), Actor Jackson Horton, Bill English (Artistic Director at San Francisco Playhouse), Nancy Houston (Handlery Hotel), Bailey Farren (the newly crowned Miss San Francisco), and many other fabulous fashionistas! Many Club members were also models, and they include Larry Booth, Bill Gregory, Jessica Hansen, District Governor Laine Hendricks, Victoria Lozano (owner of a pop-up Venezuelan kitchen called Andina), Clifford Phillips, Wendy Shew (Miss Nepal), Paul Vazquez, and Paul Yep.
Following the Show, attendees had an opportunity to meet and take photos with the models. Thank you to Gary Dales and Frank Yoke for helping with registration, Alisha Marfatia for serving as scribe, Jill Brandenburg for writing the post event press release, and Jim Patrick who along with the Academy of Art took photos. This event could not have been done without the vision and leadership of Maureen O’Shea and is one for the books that will always be fondly remembered by attendees!

The electrifying atmosphere, the dazzling outfits, and the incredible support from our members and guests made it an unforgettable experience. It's where style met purpose, as we not only raised funds through our silent auction items but also welcomed numerous new guests to our Club. This event is a true reflection of our commitment to making a positive impact while having a great time."
