The Rotary Club of San Francisco has a 16-year tradition of celebrating Thanksgiving with the participants of The Arc San Francisco. This year, a total of 515 meals were prepared for The Arc SF and The Salvation Army programs including Harbor Light and rehab services.
Past President of our Club and Past District 5150 Governor Eric Schmautz, along with John Scopazzi (Rotary Club of San Rafael), led this project to prepare hot meals with a festive Thanksgiving theme for The Arc participants experiencing food insecurity. The event was kicked off with a grocery run of epic proportions by Eric Schmautz and Chris Davies. Eric and Johnny then prepared the food before serving it to The Arc.

Tuesday morning began with excited participants and staff gathering in anticipation of an early Thanksgiving Celebration with friends and colleagues. Rotarians then showed up with cheer and helping hands. These included Eric and Chris along with Sal Baglieri, Bob Hermann, Dan Joraanstad, Anita Stangl, Emily Borland (plus two sons), Robin Azevedo, Jim Patrick, Christopher Wiseman, Eric Sleigh, Carrie Schucker, Ann Daugherty, Bridget Mahoney, Elizabeth Driskill, Mary Fermi, Lisa Stark, Carlos Valdes, Bill Gregory, Sunny Singh, Gary Dales, Tammy McNaught, Stephanie Schmautz (plus two daughters), Clifford Phillips, Tim Hornbecker, and Pat Hornbecker. Pies were cut, cranberry sauce ladled, pork carved, and stuffing and carrots served.
Thanksgiving Feast was followed by a Rotary Meeting. This was an opportunity for everyone to celebrate the partnership between The Rotary Club of San Francisco and The Arc SF. The Arc SF is appreciative of the support from Rotary for projects such as the supper club, The Entrepreneurship Program, and 16 Thanksgivings. Special gratitude was given to Tim Hornbecker for going above and beyond as a mentor to Clifford - a two-year Rotarian and a participant of The Arc SF.

Rotarians stayed on afterwards to clean up and pack up 25 meals that were delivered to The Arc SF ArtReach Studio in Burlingame. The meal that kept giving was enthusiastically received on Wednesday by our artists at ArtReach. Javier even wore a shirt and tie for the special dinner. Once again, Rotarians have brought happiness and nourishment to The Arc participants this holiday season.
