August 2025 Rotarian of the Month
Congratulations to Yana Sharma (Software Sales | IBM) who was honored as Rotarian of the Month for August 2025. Yana has been a member of our Club since 2024 and was instrumental in leading high school students at the June 2025 Bug Project with Rotarians from the Rotary Club of San Francisco Castro.

New Member Inducted
Vice President of Membership Margaret Miley (Hospitality: Hotels | Retired) joined President Frank to induct a new member. Margaret introduced Janet Beach (Job Recruitment | The Job Forum). Janet found our Club through our monthly Business Networking dinner meeting led by Vice President of Vocational Service Hana Xu Wang (Financial Services: Advising | Wang Wealth Advisors, LLC). Janet looks forward to meeting new friends and civic engagement. Rotarians in today's audience pledged to support Janet on her Rotary journey. Grant Presentation to Sutro Stewards
Robin Azevedo (Retail: Mattresses | Retired, McRoskey Mattress Company) on behalf of the San Francisco Rotary Foundation presented a check in the amount of $7,000 to the Sutro Stewards. Ildiko Polony, Executive Director of Sutro Stewards, accepted the check. Ildiko thanked our Club and the San Francisco Rotary Foundation for the generous support and delivered a presentation on how she joined Sutro Stewards and how our dollars have transformed Mount Sutro from a sick eucalyptus plantation to a meadow filled with biodiversity, native plants, wildlife, and nature trails. Dan Davies (Information Technology: Consulting | Matrix Comsec) who leads the service projects at Rotary Meadow shared how volunteering at Rotary Meadow became his favorite Club event. Past President Harold Hoogasian (Retail: Florist | Hoogasian Flowers) recognized 1999-2000 Club President William Ecker for founding our service project at Rotary Meadow.

Recent and Upcoming Events
Check the Club's calendar for details and registration in upcoming meetings and events. President Frank shared his experience at the recent District 5150 Servant Leadership for Rotarians Program that he and Vice President of Club Service Ann Daugherty (Financial Services: Private Trading | IBN Financial Services) attended. Past President Mary Liu (Real Estate: Sales | JM Real Estate Group) was one of the faculty members of the Servant Leadership Program.

Next Alliance for Smiles Medical Mission
Past President Sunny Singh (Financial Services: Advising | PK Wealth Management) talked about going on another Alliance for Smiles medical mission — this time in Guayaquil, Ecuador in January 2026. Starting October 14, 2025, Sunny will collect new socks and toothbrushes to take to Guayaquil.

  • The Club wished Past President Bob Hermann, Jr. (Information Technology: Administration | Retired) and Dan Joraanstad (Financial Services: Advising | Retired) a happy 37th wedding anniversary.
  • The Club wished Past President David Dye (Management Consulting | Retired), Past President Bob Hermann, and Margaret Miley a happy birthday. David sang the shortest birthday song.
  • The Club congratulated Anil Bhargava (Economist | Banyan Consulting) and his wife for the new baby in their family.

  • Past President Sunny talked about his email to Club Members regarding a San Francisco Chamber of Commerce event on October 9, 2025. Check your email.
  • Dan Joraanstad invited all to sign up to help with Thanksgiving at The Arc.
  • Vice President of International Service Stephen Geisheker (Retired) shared how Rotary's Global Grants are making a huge impact in the Third World.
  • RYLA Director Todd St Vrain (Education: Administration | University of Melbourne) talked about the positive feedback from participants of the 2025 RYLA Camp and the impact on the lives of all who had participated.
