President Sunny Singh (Financial Services: Advising | PK Wealth Management) rang the Rotary bell and called today's meeting to order at 12:16 PM. He welcomed those online and those attending in person at the Anzu Restaurant in the Hotel Nikko.

Today's Visiting Rotarians were Past District Governor Jayne Hulbert from the Rotary Club of Ignacio, Gene Duffy from the Rotary Club of Ignacio, Past District Governor Gary Chow from the Rotary Club of South San Francisco, Past District Governor Mary Bates from the Rotary Club of Foster City, Past District Governor Ron Gin from the Rotary Club of San Francisco Chinatown, Liz Mark from the Rotary Club of San Francisco Chinatown, and Tabitha Sparks from Rotary International. Our guest was Tamour Khan, and today's speaker was David Smith.
 
Sad News
President-Elect Bob Hermann announced that the father of District Governor Laine Hendricks (Public Relations and Marketing | County of Marin) had passed away and expressed condolences on behalf of our Club for the great loss. See here for information on Meredith Hendricks' memorial.

President Sunny and the audience thanked the staff at the Hotel Nikko for a year of great service during our Club luncheons.
 
 
New Members Inducted
President Sunny inducted Caitlyn Eller (Public Sector Consulting | Booz Allen Hamilton) and Sunayana (Yana) Sharma (Software Sales | IBM) as the newest members of our Club. Both Caitlyn and Yana had already discovered the joy of volunteering and look forward to fulfilling that passion with Rotarians. Caitlyn added that she travels often and looks forward to building a community with members of our Club. Welcome to Caitlyn and Yana!

Paul YepRotarian of the Month of June
President Sunny announced that Paul Yep (University Administration | Academy of Art University) was the Rotarian of the Month for June 2024. Paul has played many behind-the-scene roles in some of our Club's major events this past year, including the Blue Angels event and the Lunar New Year celebration. Thank you and congratulations to Paul! Paul thanked President Sunny, President-Elect Bob Hermann, and Past President Mary Liu for their guidance and support in Rotary.
 
The Rotary Foundation Recognitions
President Sunny introduced Rotary Legend Past District Governor Jayne Hulbert and wowed the audience with her many accomplishments in Rotary. PDG Jayne then introduced Tabitha Sparks from Rotary International who spoke of her role as Major Giving Officer in Rotary Zones 26 and 27. The following were recognized:

Arch Klumph Society: PDG Jayne explained what it means to become members of the Arch Klumph Society and who Arch Klumph was. Dan Joraanstad (Financial Services: Advising | Retired) and President-Elect Bob Hermann, Jr. (Information Technology: Administration | Retired) received a standing ovation for becoming members of the Arch Klumph Society. Dan gave a thank you speech on behalf of himself and President-Elect Bob and invited those who were recognized by TRF and in today's audience to join him at the podium.

Student Request
Elena Lee, a student, invited our Club to sponsor her so that she can join the VOENA Choir in a missionary trip to Croatia to help people. Allan Herzog (Financial Services: Advising | Wells Fargo Advisors) challenged others to join and match his donation of $1,000. Tom Brunner (Nonprofit Management | Glaucoma Research Foundation) challenged others to join and match his donation of $2,500. Anyone interested in matching the above donations must contact President Sunny.
 
Building Education
Wendy Shew (Nonprofit Administration | Building Education) thanked the Club and the San Francisco Rotary Foundation for supporting Building Education to build a school and improve education in Nepal. She talked about her recent trip to Nepal and brought back the Rotary flag that she had exchanged with a Rotary club there as well as a token of love. It turned out that one of the servers at the Hotel Nikko that day attended a similar school in Nepal, and he shared the history of the token of love.

President-Elect Bob invited participation in the upcoming Club Visioning events. Board Retreat
President Sunny thanked President-Elect Bob for leading the Board Retreat on June 8, 2024. In addition to planning for the upcoming Rotary year, each Board member in attendance had an opportunity to build a prosthetic hand and arm that will be used by someone who had lost a hand.

President Sunny reviewed recent Club events. Check the Club's calendar for upcoming Committee meetings and service projects. He especially encouraged all to attend the Celebration Picnic on June 15 and his Club Celebration on June 18.
 
David SmithGuest Speaker
Elizabeth Valdez Driskill (Nonprofit Administration | Catholic Charities) introduced today's speaker - David Smith. David serves as the superintendent of Golden Gate National Recreation Area, Muir Woods National Monument, and Fort Point National Historic Site. He talked about recent efforts to create safer, more accessible, and climate resilient parks for all Amercians to enjoy.
 
President Sunny thanked David Smith and announced that 100 children would be inoculated against polio in David's name.
