After a lively cocktail hour hosted by an anonymous and generous donor, President Sunny Singh (Financial Services: Advising | PK Wealth Management) rang the Rotary bell and called today's meeting to order at 12:15 PM. He welcomed those online and those attending in person at the Peninsula Ballroom in the Hotel Nikko.
Visiting Rotarians and Guests
Today's Visiting Rotarians were Piper Tseng from the Rotary Club of Beijing, PDG Chris Gallagher (formerly with our Rotary District 5150) and now from the West Bay Rotary Club of Camden in Maine, John Paul from the 49er Rotary Breakfast Club of Nevada City, and Carol Cox from the 49er Rotary Breakfast Club of Nevada City.
President Sunny introduced his guest - Tamour Khan. Maureen O’Shea (Governmental Relations | Retired) introduced her guests - Dan Riley, Mark Farrell, and Rae Sansa. Lisa Stark (Communications & Media) introduced her guest - Karen Stark. Larry Booth (Engineering: Mechanical | Frank M. Booth, Inc.) introduced his guests - Matthew Martin and Michael Phillis. Other guests were Robert Hunter, Jerry Brown, Hayley Browning, and Luis Zamora. Our guest attending online was Eric Sleigh. Our special guest was San Francisco City Attorney David Chiu. Today's speaker was D'Arcy Drollinger. D'Arcy's guests were Matt Pagel and Corey Revilla.
What is a Rotary Club?
Today's audience included people interested in becoming a Rotarian and/or attending their first ever Rotary meeting. President Sunny took the opportunity to give a brief history of Rotary and its impact in service projects locally and internationally such as April’s Bike Build, the upcoming Fall 2024 Emergency Service Day, the Homeless Prenatal Program diaper bag distributions, the RYLA Youth Leadership camp, and the Alliance for Smiles cleft palate repair.
Rotarian of the Month of April
President Sunny announced that Brian Lan (Information Technology: Financial Services | Meta) was the Rotarian of the Month for April 2024. Brian was responsible for making our 2024 Bike Build a huge success! Thank you and congratulations to Brian!
Rotarian of the Month of May
President Sunny announced that Dan Joraanstad (Financial Services: Advising | Retired) was the Rotarian of the Month for May 2024. Dan was honored for his day-in and day-out support of our Club and particularly in the area of membership. Thank you and congratulations to Dan!
2024 Rotary International Convention
Dan Joraanstad and President-Elect Bob Hermann, Jr. (Information Technology: Administration | Retired) attended the 2024 Rotary International Convention in Singapore along with 14,000 Rotarians and friends from around the world. They met the incoming RI President Stephanie Urchick whose theme will be The Magic of Rotary. They also learned that there are only FIVE recorded cases of polio to date this year.

President-Elect Bob invited participation in the upcoming Club Visioning events. Guest Speaker
San Francisco City Attorney David Chiu introduced today's speaker - D'Arcy Drollinger. D'Arcy is the Owner and Artistic Director of OASIS, San Francisco’s internationally acclaimed drag show nightclub and cabaret. D'Arcy has been appointed by Mayor London Breed as San Francisco’s first ever Drag Laureate and will hold that position for the next 18 months.
Community-minded D’Arcy created Meals on Heels during the pandemic which not only delivered food but delivered it with song and dance. D’Arcy espouses being FABULOUS. It’s free, it’s contagious, and it’s fun! Being FABULOUS changes the world for good and suppresses hate. A native San Franciscan, D'Arcy shared a bit of personal story and thanked Rotary for celebrating Pride Month. He also offered two free tickets to the OASIS to anyone who has never attended.
President Sunny thanked D'Arcy Drollinger and announced that 100 children would be inoculated against polio in D'Arcy's name.
It was tough to close today's lively meeting, but President Sunny did ring the Rotary bell shortly after 1:30 PM.
