The Monday Night Supper Club of The Arc San Francisco Friends Like Me Program returned to in person this past Monday, February 13, 2023. Nourishment and fun were had by all. The evening started off with everyone pitching in to dress the salad and heat up rotisserie chickens and Mac and Cheese. After dinner, everyone enjoyed games, dancing, and chocolate-covered strawberries.
The Rotary Club of San Francisco funds the Monday Night Supper Clubs. Thank you to the following members of our Rotary Club for leading this evening's Supper Club: Christopher Davies, Clifford Phillips, and Barbara Streett. In addition to being a Rotarian, Clifford is also a participant and Barbara is also the Volunteer Manager of The Arc SF.
Our own Immediate Past President Mary Liu was mentioned in an article of the February 8, 2023 issue of the Piedmont Post for being the first Asian American president of our Club. When the 2023 Super Bowl concluded on February 12, 2023, Past President David Dye was ecstatic that the Kansas City Chiefs had won. David has been a Chiefs' fan most of his life.
About 50 Rotarians, family, and friends gathered together to watch the Super Bowl on Sunday, February 12, 2023. The crowd enjoyed laughter, fellowship, the game, and a potluck.
In addition to watching the Big Game, everyone kept an eye on the board bearing the names of the players of our Club's Super Bowl Pool. $12,300 was raised for the 50/50 Campaign. The winners of the Pool (in order of their win) were: Dan Joraanstad, Scott Plakun, Allan Herzog, Jim Patrick, Robin Azevedo, Frank Yoke, Mary Liu, and Jeff Yih. Each winner will receive a Paul Harris Fellowship. Jim and Jeff will each receive two PHFs. Congratulations to all!

On Emergency Services Day, the Rotary Club of San Francisco annually honors outstanding representatives of the departments that we depend on for our public safety: the Fire Department, the Department of Emergency Management, the Police Department, the Sheriff’s Office, the Coast Guard, and the Recreation and Park Rangers. Join us at this service opportunity to stuff diaper bags and organize diapers and wipes for giveaway to clients of the Homeless Prenatal Program. We will meet at an open-air warehouse to allow social distancing while stuffing the bags and organizing the goods. Participation is limited to 10 people, so sign up early. Facial mask is required.
Join us on Thursday, March 2, 2023 from 6 PM to 8:30 PM to learn how to support your business and mingle with other professionals in the community. The evening includes networking, a photo opportunity, light bites, and beverages. Advanced registration required.
Past District 5150 Governor Mark Flegel is a businessman, a philanthropist, and an active Rotarian. He joins our luncheon to speak on the life of young Paul Harris, the Founder of Rotary.
Join us at one or both of the Baby Showers at the Homeless Prenatal Program where we will give expectant mothers diaper bags filled with supplies. The party for Spanish speakers starts at 10 AM; the party for English speakers starts at 1:00 PM. Registration is limited to two Rotarians at each shower. Mask and on-site COVID test required.
Join us at Cameron House in San Francisco’s Chinatown to assemble comfort bags full of toiletries and basic needs for Cameron House’s Domestic Violence Survivors. After the assembly, we will walk over to a nearby Dim Sum restaurant for lunch. Register early as the number of volunteers is limited to 10 people. All participants must wear a mask covering the nose and the mouth.
Burning Man is difficult to explain and best understood through experience, but since not everyone has the chance (or inclination) to join the event in person, Club Member Jessica Hansen - long time “Burner” and board member of Mystopia - will provide a glimpse into the annual gathering and temporary city in the desert of Black Rock City, Nevada.
The Monday Night Supper Club at The Arc now meets in person. Enjoy the opportunity to help with meal set-up and then, sit, eat, and get to know The Arc's participants. This event is limited to 8 volunteers maximum.
