Immediate Past President Christopher Wiseman (Nonprofit Management | Glaucoma Research Foundation) called today's meeting to order at 12:15 PM and welcomed those online and those attending in person at the Anzu Restaurant in the Hotel Nikko. President Sunny Singh (Financial Services: Advising | PK Wealth Management) was feeling under the weather but very appreciative of the well wishes and good thoughts sent to him.
Visiting Rotarians and Guests
Today's Visiting Rotarian was Alexander Kuch who is a member of a Rotary club in Germany. He currently resides in New Zealand and attends his Rotary meetings at midnight. Today's guests from Catholic Charities were Everett Highbaugh, Morgan McCarthy, Tony Alioto, and Elizabeth Driskill.
A new grant partner for the Rotary Club of San Francisco is Family House, a home away from home to provide physical comfort and emotional support free from financial concerns to families of children with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses. On November 7, Immediate Past President Christopher Wiseman along with his spouse Eric Sleigh and Club Members Alisha Marfatia, Dan Joraanstad, Bill Gregory, Nancy Graydon, Margaret Miley, and me (Bob Hermann) joined Family House Volunteer Coordinator Terrence Dixon to clean and sanitize kitchen and common areas, offload and distribute meals to those living at Family House, and interface with these families. Club Secretary Nancy Graydon even provided coloring books to the children.
Executive Director Jessica Hansen joins us to share the lifesaving and life-changing work of Alliance for Smiles. Hear some of the stories of children and their families who journeyed vast distances for the operations. You will also hear about the fantastic team of volunteers and their transformative impact on these children, which was made possible through the support of many members of this Club and the continued support of Rotary. This is a Zoom-only meeting.
Bring in the holiday season early by joining us for our Rotary Club's Friendsgiving with lots of food, drink, games, and Rotary fellowship. This event is open to all Rotarians from the Rotary Club of San Francisco, their families, and guests. Registration is limited to 25 people.
It's time for one of our most popular service projects - Thanksgiving at The Arc San Francisco! In the spirit of giving thanks, Rotarians will gather to provide a Thanksgiving feast for participants at The Arc SF. Many hands are needed to either serve or be on the clean-up team; please sign up to help. This is the only Thanksgiving celebration for many of the people we serve that day. And they are most appreciative.
Join us at this service opportunity to stuff diaper bags and organize diapers and wipes for giveaway to clients of the Homeless Prenatal Program. Event is limited to 12 people.
Woody LaBounty, president and CEO of San Francisco Heritage, will present a perspective on San Francisco history, talk about the various neighborhoods, and opine on where San Francisco is today.
Join us at one or both of the Baby Showers at the Homeless Prenatal Program where we will give expectant mothers diaper bags filled with supplies. The party for Spanish speakers starts at 10 AM; the party for English speakers starts at 1 PM. Registration is limited to two Rotarians at each shower.
Club members, friends, and family are all invited to celebrate Hanukkah, the Jewish Festival of Lights, at a candle-lighting ceremony plus snacks with wine and other beverages. Tickets are $10 each, but there is no charge for children aged 12 and younger. The deadline to register is 5 PM on Friday, December 8.
