The Season for Giving
This past Tuesday was Giving Tuesday, a movement to show generosity and support within our community and the world. On this day, I reflected on what it means to be a Rotarian and how I can support the activities and service projects in our Club. After the world returned to meeting in person again, I found that my jobs took more of my time. Many people did not return to work, and the labor shortage meant that I had to work lots of hours. That meant less time to be at Rotary events and service projects.
 
So I turned to giving more effort in serving as your editor and to donating more so that there would be funding to continue the projects that benefit our community. My husband, David, and I joined the Paul Harris Society. Recently, we were told that we have become Major Donors in Rotary. We see our dollars helping those in need. A great example is the recent Thanksgiving at The Arc San Francisco. On November 30, 2022, Barbara Streett wrote this thank you message:

ROTARY LUNCHEON December 6, 2022: Rev. Glenda Hope and Women Transitioning out of Prostitution
In response to a series of brutal murders and assaults upon prostituted women in the mid-1990s, Reverend Glenda Hope worked with the Sisters of Presentation to found Safe House, a safe place for women transitioning out of prostitution. Come to hear about the healing work that Safe House has done and continues to do in our community.
 
 
SERVICE PROJECT December 8, 2022: Diaper Bag Assembly for Homeless Prenatal Program
Join us at this service opportunity to stuff diaper bags and organize diapers and wipes for giveaway to clients of the Homeless Prenatal Program. We will meet at an open-air warehouse to allow social distancing while stuffing the bags and organizing the goods. Participation is limited to 10 people, so sign up early. Facial mask is required. 
 
SERVICE PROJECT December 10, 2022: Rotary Meadow Restoration
Come and enjoy nature, fresh air, and fellowship while helping Sutro Stewards seed and restore Rotary Meadow - a garden of native plants our Club planted at the summit of Mount Sutro in 2004. Participation is limited to a maximum of 20 members of our Club. Advanced registration is required.
 
Holiday Party and Annual Meeting: December 13, 2022
Join us at the Hotel Nikko for this year’s Holiday Party and Annual Meeting. This is always the most festive and fun-filled luncheon of the year, so bring your family, friends, and business associates to celebrate with us!
 
Baby Showers for Homeless Prenatal Program: December 14, 2022
Join us at one or both of the Baby Showers at the Homeless Prenatal Program where we will give expectant mothers diaper bags filled with supplies. The party for Spanish speakers starts at 10 AM; the party for English speakers starts at 1:00 PM. Registration is limited to two Rotarians at each shower. Mask and on-site COVID test required.
 
 
SERVICE PROJECT December 16, 2022: Catholic Charities and working with children and families to make a difference
Please join us at Catholic Charities' Maureen and Craig Sullivan Youth Center to work with kids on holiday art projects, serve food, and spread some cheer during this fun and festive season. The event is limited to 10 volunteers. Register early!
