The Rotary Youth Leadership Academy (RYLA) is a five-day residential and transformative summer camp. RYLA fosters our youth’s leadership and personal development, promotes their mental health through social connections, and builds lifelong connections to Rotary. RYLA serves 160 students from 45 schools, with 20+ young alumni continuing their leadership journey as camp staff. Many say RYLA is the best week of their lives.
Our District’s 39th annual RYLA will be held from July 28 to August 1, 2025 at the Redwood Glen Center in Scotts Valley (near Santa Cruz). Opportunities to be involved include serving as a camp counselor (called a facilitator), referring others to be a facilitator (from college students to retirees), or joining RYLA support teams such as the marketing and operations teams.
President Bob Hermann, Jr. (Information Technology: Administration | Retired) called the meeting to order at 12:15 PM and welcomed everyone attending in person or on Zoom. In honor of Valentine's Day, Hershey's kisses were available next to each table setting.

Today's Visiting Rotarians were Mary-Caroline Hammerer from the Rotary Club of Braunschweig Henry the Lion in Germany; Peter Hammerer from the Rotary Club of Braunschweig in Germany; Mary Johnson from the Rotary Club of Folsom Lake; Mairy Droese from the Rotary Club of Orangevale; and Bob Doerr, Bobba Venkatadri, and Jerry Winges from the Rotary Club of Burlingame Hillsborough. Joining Mairy was her partner, Richard Droese. Other guests were Holly Huebel, Fiorela Martinez, Patrick Shannon, and Eric Thongrak. Our speaker was MacKenzie Chung Fegan. Welcome to all!

A group of 5-8 Rotarian volunteers is needed to help at the De Marillac Academy before and after the Trimester Two Awards Assembly. Rotarians will have opportunities to see the students, learn about the community, and get an inside look at student life at De Marillac Academy.

Dr. Laura (Kai) Burrus from San Francisco State University shares her current research on climate change, its impacts, and solutions. She will also explain how climate change is inherently racist. Join us to learn about this important matter affecting our planet.
Join us at one or both of the Baby Showers at the Homeless Prenatal Program where we will give expectant mothers diaper bags filled with supplies. The party for Spanish speakers starts at 10 AM; the party for English speakers starts at 1 PM. Registration is limited to two Rotarians at each shower.
Join us for our Club's NEXT EVENING MEETING where we will conduct some Club business, have dinner, and enjoy Rotary fellowship. There is no charge to attend this meeting, but each attendee pays individually for food and beverages ordered at MoMo's. Please register yourself and your guests so that we can plan the space.
This annual assembly provides a great deal of training and planning for the Rotary Year that begins on July 1, 2025. All Club members are invited, and all Club leaders are strongly encouraged to attend. Come and cheer for Frank Yoke as he begins his year as our Club's President.

This year’s iftar will showcase a traditional Turkish-style Ramadan dinner, highlighting the flavors and customs of Türkiye’s rich culinary and cultural heritage. Our March movie is Dongju: The Portrait of a Poet, a Korean film about Yun Dongju, one of the most beloved Korean poets. Through his life story, we will learn how many Korean scholars were treated during the Japanese colonization of Korea and experience their yearn for creativity, passion, and freedom. This event is open to Rotarians, their friends, and family. This film is not rated, but not recommended for young children due to the mature themes.
