At the 2026 Zones 26 and 27 Institute held from September 3 – 6, 2026 in Litchfield Park, Arizona, Rotary District 5150 was honored for the following achievements in the 2025-2026 Rotary year under the leadership of Past District Governor Mitone Griffiths:
First Place in Every Rotarian Every Year Participation
This year I had the opportunity to widen my Rotary lens along with my husband and fellow Rotarian Dan Joraanstad by attending my first Rotary Zones 26 & 27 Institute in Arizona and, even more significantly, by participating in the Emerging Rotary Leaders (ERL) Program. Zones 26 and 27 encompass approximately 30 Rotary districts across the western United States and part of Canada, bringing Rotarians together for learning, fellowship, leadership development, and perhaps most important, the exchange of ideas about Rotary's future.
Through ERL, I joined fellow District 5150 Rotarian Lora Curran of the Rotary Club of Peninsula Starlight and emerging leaders from throughout our two Zones. We explored membership and belonging, technology (AI), public image (think Rotary Mascot!), The Rotary Foundation, service, and how Rotary can continue evolving while preserving the values at its core.

On September 8, 2026, Robin presented a $1,000 check to Sharon Bechtol, Purchasing and Product Manager at the Homeless Prenatal Program, to purchase diapers.
This past weekend, our very own Club President Ozan received a VIP welcome as he represented the Rotary Club of San Francisco at the annual Scottish Gathering & Games at the Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton!
Hosted by the Caledonian Club of San Francisco, this celebrated tradition is one of the largest Highland gatherings in the world —and President Ozan experienced it in true grand style. He was personally welcomed by 1st Chieftain Alex Sinclair, who hosted Ozan in the official skybox and led him on an insider tour of the grounds to meet and connect with fellow Clan Chieftains throughout the day.
From the premier view in the skybox to the bustling festival field, Ozan took in the incredible sights and sounds of the day — including world-class bagpipe competitions, Scottish Highland Dance, and iconic Highland athletics.
Del Seymour shares his journey as an African American Vietnam veteran who was chronically homeless and incarcerated for 18 years to his recovery and founding of Code Tenderloin in 2015.
Recognizing Healthy Aging Month, our next DEI Film Festival movie is the Oscar-winning On Golden Pond, that explores the challenges and joys of multi-generational relationships within a family. We’re experimenting with a new format for this film, asking that you view it on your own and then participate in a Zoom discussion at 8 PM on Wednesday, September 23.
