Members of the Rotary Club of San Francisco witnessed something extraordinary at San Francisco State University's Climate HQ's October fundraiser — students who are already making real impacts on California's climate future.

 

The event brought together students, faculty, and community partners to celebrate the remarkable work happening at Climate HQ, San Francisco State's hub for climate justice education, research, and action. What makes their approach so powerful is its commitment to equity and excellence. SF State serves the students who become California: first-generation college students, working families, and communities on the frontlines of climate change. Through paid fellowships and internships, Climate HQ ensures these students don't have to choose between fighting climate change and paying rent.

 

The Rotary Club of San Francisco has served our community and the world for 118 years. The strength of our Club has always been the commitment that each of us makes as people of action. We make a difference in the world. Our Club continues to embrace the Rotary International theme of Unite for Good, continuing our journey of service, fellowship, and fun. Together, we can tap into Rotary's transformative power to leave a lasting impact and inspire others to join us in making a difference.

 

This is a reminder notice that membership dues are crucial in sustaining our Club, serving as the financial foundation that enables effective functioning, and supporting various initiatives such as peacebuilding, environmental sustainability, global projects, youth services, and community service efforts. Your dues also help to fulfill our obligations to our District and Rotary International. 

 

President Frank Yoke called the meeting via Zoom to order at 4:05 p.m. on September 23, 2025. Secretary Dora Dye recorded the minutes.

 

In attendance were Gary Dales, Ann Daugherty, Dora Dye, Stephen Geisheker, Bob Hermann, Tim Hornbecker, Margaret Miley, Maureen O’Shea, Darlene Wilson, and President Frank Yoke, constituting a quorum. Absent were Stellie Kim, Wendy Shew, Hana Xu Wang, and Ozan Yasavur. Our guest was Sunny Singh.

 

The Board approved the August 27, 2025 meeting minutes.

There is no charge to attend this meeting, but each attendee pays individually for food and beverages ordered at DACHA Kitchen & Bar. Bring in the holiday season early by joining us for our Rotary Club's 2025 Friendsgiving with lots of food, drink, games, and Rotary fellowship. This event is open to all Rotarians from the Rotary Club of San Francisco, their families, and guests. Registration is limited to 25 people. 

 

Join us to build grocery boxes for seniors, sort donations, and perform other various tasks as needed. The Food Bank continues to need your helping hands. Registration is limited to 9 volunteers; so register early!

On this Veterans Day, we invite each member of our Club to Sponsor a Veteran for lunch. You can either bring the Veteran as your guest to the luncheon or you can sponsor a Veteran by paying for their lunch. Our guest speaker for this event is Eric Wick who will talk on the Veteran suicide epidemic.

Join RCAT, SFSU Climate HQ, and Save the Bay for a hands-on shoreline restoration event to protect wildlife habitat, improve climate resilience, and beautify our Bay. Volunteers will help plant native species, remove invasive plants, and learn about the Bay’s vital ecosystem. All ages and abilities welcome — all tools provided, no experience needed! Come make a difference for our environment and community.

Our November DEI Film Festival movie is Mankiller. This inspiring documentary follows the life of Wilma Mankiller, the first woman to be elected Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation. Following the screening, we will host a group discussion over a pizza and salad dinner to reflect on the film’s themes and to share perspectives on Wilma Mankiller’s legacy as a leader, activist, and changemaker.

It's time for one of our most popular service projects — Thanksgiving at The Arc San Francisco! In the spirit of giving thanks, Rotarians will gather to provide a Thanksgiving feast for participants at The Arc SF. Many hands are needed to either serve or be on the clean-up team; please sign up to help. This is the only Thanksgiving celebration for many of the people we serve that day. And they are most appreciative.
